Gidleigh Park celebrates
 two Michelin stars for the
11th year running

We are delighted to have retained two Michelin stars for 2010. The Michelin guide is arguably the most revered restaurant guide amongst chefs, restaurant critics and guests alike and Gidleigh Park is honored to be a part of a small group of two star establishments, of which there are only fourteen in England, Scotland and the Republic of Ireland, including just five establishments outside London. Gidleigh Park is one of only three two Michelin star restaurant in the South West.

Says Michael Caines MBE, Executive Chef: ‘This is fantastic news. I am so proud of my team, who work tirelessly everyday to achieve perfection for all our guests.’

Gidleigh Park Restaurant voted best restaurant in
toptable's annual Top 100 Restaurants
 14th January 2010

toptable.com, Europe's largest dining community and online restaurant reservation service, is pleased to announce the winners of its 2010 Top Restaurant Awards.

Gidleigh Park Restaurant in Chagford, Devon, has won this year's coveted 'Top Diner Rated' award. The two Michelin-starred restaurant earned rave reviews from toptable members for its ‘amazing’ food, ‘faultless’ service and ‘stunning’ location. Several toptable foodies agreed that they had eaten their ‘best meal ever’ at Gidleigh Park Restaurant.

Gidleigh Park’s Executive Chef, Michael Caines MBE, commented, “I am delighted that we have been nominated so often in these awards.  It is always satisfying to receive recognition and praise, but it is particularly gratifying that the impartial views and ratings of toptable users, our diners, have positioned us so highly.”

The toptable Top 100 Restaurant Awards’ ten categories are judged entirely on the ratings of the 3 million diners who booked and dined at one of toptable’s 5,000 restaurants during 2009. toptable users are invited to rate and review a restaurant only once they have eaten there.   Every restaurant on the site has a chance to win, from small, local favourites to high-profile restaurants across the UK and overseas. toptable receives 3 million unique visitors each month and features nearly 900,000 unbiased user-generated reviews. The ten categories in the Top 100 Restaurants are: Top Diner Rated, Value, Under £25, Over £45, Parties, Celebrity Chefs, Romance, Hidden Gems, International Restaurant and Cuisine.

Gidleigh Park Restaurant earned a hat trick of prizes, winning top place in the categories ‘Best for Romance’ ahead of The Ritz Restaurant, London, and the Langshott Manor Hotel’s Mulberry Restaurant, and ‘Best Over £45’, beating The Ritz Restaurant and legendary Le Gavroche in London into second and third place. Another Michael Caines restaurant, Abode in Exeter, was voted fourth in the ‘Celebrity Chefs’ category, just above Alain Ducasse at The Dorchester in London and Marcus Wareing at The Berkeley.

"It's also hugely important for the British food scene that so many winners are outside the capital and even beyond major metropolitan areas. We may have been called a nation of shopkeepers once, but in the 21st century Britain has become a nation of diners who really recognise and appreciate a good dining experience.”
