Gardens

Located in an area of outstanding beauty you would be forgiven for thinking that the area beyond would eclipse Gidleigh Park’s own gardens but in fact each only serves to enhance the other.

The gardens have been planted to provide an array of colour against the hues of green that form the natural backdrop. From the first tulips of Spring to the carpet of Bluebells that follows right through to the azaleas, acers, aliums, camellias and rhododendrons and the rich hues of Autumn, the riot of colour and beauty is spellbinding.

Discover our own water garden by taking a stroll through the pathways, discovering unique and unusual species flourishing in the damp atmosphere. The soothing sound of the water running and trickling over boulders and pebbles, and naturally formed miniature waterfalls breathing in the clear air, ensures this experience is relaxing and rejuvenating in one.

Practicality plays a big part in the garden's landscape, particularly in the newly designed vegetable garden. The seasonal produce is destined  for our kitchen and a planting scheme supports our Chef’s menu planning through the year. The scent of the herbs as you meander cannot fail to provide a nod to the very fine dining experience you enjoy here.

Whichever corner of our wonderful estate you choose to explore  the accompaniment of the flow of the River Teign, sometimes a gentle babble and sometimes a loud rumble only serves to enhance the experience.

The putting green situated near the Pavillion will be closed over the winter months to allow the greens to be rested, so we look forward to an early re-opening of the course in the spring.
